Siemens demonstrated “flexible grasping” using AI and neural network processing.
In September 2019, Stephanie Neil, Automation World’s Senior Editor, reported on how Siemens is using neural networks in its controller programs to enable controllers to recognize complex patters, much like the human brain. By bringing this technology into the company’s S7-1500 controller and ET 200MP I/O system with the release of the S7-1500 TM neural processing unit (NPU), Siemens is able to extend the capabilities of the controller to change based on product or process specifics, allowing the machines it controls to naturally become more flexible.
